Bank
Choosing a Bank
Large banks in Poland serve foreigners – including PKO BP, Pekao, Santander, mBank, ING, and Alior. In some of them, the account opening process is simpler; for example, at mBank or Santander, often only a passport is needed. However, some banks have higher requirements and may ask for a PESEL number or residence card.
What you need
Required documents
For a Turkish citizen to open a bank account in Poland, certain documents and conditions are usually required. This depends on the bank, but most often you need
1.
Identity document
A valid passport is required for the application. In some cases (e.g., at the bank), they may also ask for a residence card if you have one.
2.
PESEL or NIP number
Some banks will open an account with just a passport, while others require a PESEL or tax identification number (NIP). If you live in Poland long-term, it’s worth obtaining a PESEL number.
3.
Residential address
A Polish address for correspondence (can be a rented apartment or a friend’s address). Banks often ask for proof of address (e.g., rental agreement, utility bill).
4.
Residence status / purpose of stay
Some banks ask for a visa, residence card, or employment/rental contract. If you work or study in Poland, documents confirming this will make the process easier.
It’s easiest to open an account with a passport and a Polish address, but to use the account fully (e.g., for credit or a credit card), you usually need a PESEL and/or residence card.
